Julie Gualano, MSML, is a nationally recognized leader in Graduate Medical Education with 19 years of experience advancing operational excellence, program development, and strategic growth across multiple specialties. She has held progressive leadership roles at the institutional and national levels and is known for translating complex requirements into practical, sustainable systems that strengthen programs and support the professionals who lead their daily operations.

As Co-Founder and CEO of GME Compass, LLC, Julie has created a platform dedicated to professional education, operational clarity, leadership development, and meaningful connection for GME professionals at every career stage. Through educational programming, consulting, practical resources, and community conversations, she helps professionals strengthen their expertise, navigate challenges, and contribute as operational strategic advisors within their leadership teams. Her work includes developing workshops and leadership learning experiences, producing educational content, and establishing an advisory board that brings diverse perspectives across specialties to GME Compass’s mission and future direction.

A dedicated advocate for program managers and coordinators, Julie has served for six years on the Association of Program Managers in Obstetrics and Gynecology (APMOG) Council, including service as chair. She has designed and implemented comprehensive needs assessments examining role expectations, leadership structures, burnout, and access to professional development. This work supported advocacy with CREOG and contributed to national program manager and coordinator survey initiatives aligned with those for program directors and trainees, helping elevate the profession’s voice and visibility.

Julie’s expertise spans accreditation oversight, change management, new program development, accreditation remediation, curriculum design, and GME operational strategy. She has advised institutions and first-time programs on launching residency programs, aligning accreditation requirements with strong educational and operational foundations.

Across her work, Julie emphasizes the essential partnership between GME professionals and physician leaders in shaping effective training environments. Through GME Compass, she advances accessible professional development, mentorship, and community building, with a commitment to helping GME professionals gain the knowledge, confidence, and support to lead at every level.

Julie holds a Master of Science in Management and Leadership with a focus on Organizational Behavior and remains deeply committed to shaping the future of GME through education, advocacy, innovation, and service.
