Julie A. Gualano, MSML
Managing Member & Chief Executive Officer
Co-Founder, GME Compass, LLC
Julie Gualano, MSML is a nationally recognized leader in Graduate Medical Education with nearly two decades of experience driving innovation, operational excellence, and strategic growth across multiple specialties. With 19 years in GME, she has held progressive leadership roles at both the institutional and national levels, where she is known for transforming complex systems into sustainable, high-performing programs.
Julie was selected as one of only two program manager/coordinator representatives nationwide to serve on a high-impact weekly taskforce guiding the OB/GYN specialty’s transition to a new centralized residency application platform, ResidencyCAS. In this role, she collaborated with national organizations including ACOG, APGO, and the RRR Grant Team to ensure a seamless, equitable, and data-driven transition for programs, applicants, and institutions across the country.
A passionate advocate for program managers and coordinators, Julie has dedicated her career to advancing the visibility, growth, and professional development of the role. She co-founded and led a national team of program manager/coordinator “superusers” for ResidencyCAS, focused on identifying real-world barriers and driving practical, system-level solutions. She also designed and implemented comprehensive, multi-phase needs assessment surveys to analyze trends in the program manager/coordinator role, leadership structures, burnout, and professional development. This work directly contributed to successful advocacy efforts with CREOG, resulting in the creation of program manager/coordinator national survey initiatives aligned with program directors and trainees—an important step forward in elevating the voice and recognizing the vital role of program managers and coordinators.
Julie’s expertise spans accreditation oversight, GME change management, new program development, remediation of accreditation challenges, curriculum design, and GME operational strategy. She has successfully advised multiple institutions, including first-time programs, on launching residency programs, ensuring compliance while building strong educational infrastructures from the ground up.
Known for her ability to create systems that drive efficiency and clarity, Julie focuses on empowering program managers and coordinators and leadership teams to improve program performance and ultimately enhance the training environment for residents and fellows.
She holds a Master of Science in Management & Leadership with a focus on Organizational Behavior and remains deeply committed to shaping the future of GME through advocacy, innovation, and mentorship.
